Spooky Invasive Creatures!
Carving pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns, trick-or-treating, and dressing in costumes and disguises – it’s all part of the ghastly fun of Halloween! While witches, ghosts and goblins can be frightening, invasive species can be just as hair-raising!

Barb's Memorial Plant Sale went very well with almost all of her inventory being sold. She was so well-loved that several people said they were purchasing a plant to grow in their garden in her memory.
Proceeds of the sale will be used to procure a memorial bench in Barb's name, to be located at the Nature Conservancy area on Manson at Cranberry Lake. The balance of $500 will be donated to the Powell River Garden Club!
Thank you, Barb and family!

What a great time was had at this year's Fall Fair! Though the weather threatened with thunder and rain on Saturday morning, the skies cleared and the turnout was wonderful!
Many thanks to our members who volunteered their time to help educate fair visitors about the Powell River Garden Club. And much gratitude to those who donated prizes - your generosity enabled us to give away two gift baskets this year!
We had well over 100 entries in our gift basket draw - Congratulations to the winners: Patricia M. and Sabrina M. !

Our evening presentation is the art of Christmas Table Centre's with Janet Lowes, owner of Bloom Wildly. Seeding vegetables and herbs in unheated greenhouses with ground-level or raised beds is still possible in September. This gives you microgreens all winter for soups, salads, and shakes, and those left to grow as large as possible can be transplanted out in March to the garden bed and provide great greens until the first spring seeded crops are up. It is great to have some greens started in August and July to provide for earlier greens in October, but the September crop will often prove just as fruitful. Also, spinach and green onions for example can be transplanted from the greenhouse into standard 11” by 21.5” nursery trays and grow well until February in sunrooms and glassed-in porches.
